Description SoundscapeELITE Effects Toolkit guide

Installing the Effects Toolkit
Run the file SETUP.EXE, which will install the toolkit in a
directory named "toolkit" and create an icon in the Soundscape
program group called "Effects Toolkit"

Note for Windows 3.xx users
In Windows 3.xx, you may only apply effects to MIDI data. Effects
cannot be applied to digital audio data such as .WAV or .VOC files.

Note for Windows 95 users
In Windows 95, you may not open two MIDI devices at the same time.
This means that you cannot open a MIDI sequencer while the FX
toolkit is open. You can set up an effect that will remain in place
after the FX toolkit is closed, or you may save Sysex packages to use
with your sequencer.

Selecting and Adjusting Algorithms and Variations
Selecting and adjusting effects and variations:
1. Open the toolkit from the icon located in the Soundscape program group.
2. Pressing the "Test" button demonstrates the current effects setting.
It will play either a piano note or the last note played for each
MIDI channel. (You might find it beneficial to prepare for this
by opening your sequencer with the sequence you would like to play
and playing part of it. In Windows ‘95 you must then close the
sequencer before proceeding.)
3. The "Delay" setting determines how long the test note will sound.
Higher numbers will yield a longer sound.
4. Select an algorithm. There are 13 to choose from.
5. Select a variation. There are 4 variations for every algorithm
6. Adjust, test, or select new algorithms and variations until you have
the sound you desire.

Playing with No Effects (dry or bypassed)
1. Select the algorithm "Bypass".

Working with MIDI Files
Applying effects by MIDI channel:

1. From the menu bar, select "Routing".
2. Mark or un-mark the check box for each MIDI channel.
3. Use the button next to each check box to select which part of the
algorithm you wish to apply to that channel. The options vary
with each algorithm.
4. Test as required, then click "OK" to close the screen.

Using effects in your current session:
1. Select an algorithm and a variation and adjust as
desired.
2. If using Windows ‘95, close (exit) the Effects toolkit.
3. Open or switch to your MIDI application and play
your music.

Saving Sysex setups for future sessions:
1. Select and adjust your algorithm, variation and routing as desired.
2. From the menu bar, select "Sysex". Note the menu options "Algorithm",
"Variation", and "Routing". Check all that you would like to have
saved in the Sysex file (generally you should select all, unless
you want to make a series of progressive changes to a setup--saving
only the affected portion will speed up the Sysex transfer). Choose
"Save..." when you are done.
3. Enter a file name and "OK" the dialog box. The .SYX file is now saved
for use with another application. You should consult your MIDI
application’s documentation for instructions on how to use Sysex files.

Working with Wave/Digital Audio
To apply effects to Wave audio, first you need a prerecorded .WAV/digital audio
file. This may be a vocal track, a system sound, or any digital audio file.

1. Open your wave-playing application.
2. Open the Effects Toolkit and choose an algorithm and variation.
3. Make any parameter changes that you desire

To select or deselect portions of the effect algorithm:
1. From the menu bar select "Routing".
2. Click the button labeled Wave at the bottom of the dialog box.
Sequential clicks will cycle through the available portions of the algorithm.

Re-recording a Wave File with Effects
You cannot record your .WAV files with effects or apply the effects to any
incoming data, however, once recorded, you can apply an effect to the recording.
For best results, you should first adjust your wave audio record levels with
the M.S. Mixer. For Windows 95, the procedure is:
1. Double-click the speaker icon at the lower right corner of your Win 95 screen.
This will open the Volume Control. If this volume control is not present
be sure that is it installed in Windows 95 Setup. For more information on
this, refer to the Windows 95 installation guide for Soundscape.
2. Select "Options" and "Advanced Controls", then
"Options" and "Properties" from the menu bar.
3. Select the button for "Recording", then "OK".
4. Check the box for "Mixed Input" and adjust its volume slider.
5. Close or minimize the Volume Control.

For Windows 3.1:
1. Open the AudioStation program
2. Make sure the mixer is present
3. Make adjustments to the WAVE volume and the Record volume.

Please note, the volume settings may need to very low to keep the recording
from "clipping". Try putting these level controls at the very bottom when
you start your recording.

To re-record a file, open two digital audio applications(on
